My brothers and sisters organized a surprise breakfast for my parents along with a gift of "40 Years of Memories" letters. Basically we contacted family and friends and asked them to write a note about their favorite memory from the past 40 years of my mom and dad. We started 3 months in advance collecting letters and ending up with over 50 letters. We were in awe of all the people that we heard from...old friends, new friends, friends from Ireland, family members ranging from grandchildren, children, siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins. It was amazing and the letters made us all laugh and cry...they were incredible. The surprise breakfast was a hit and had over 60 people come by The Parker's to pay tribute to their 40 years of marriage.
Brandon and I are just so proud of the fact that we both come from such great families with parents that have made their marriages work and built a legacy of faith, love, and support for their children and grandchildren to model. So blessed!ELAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15991663365899894137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4473649916673411099.post-38376035611462965432012-05-14T07:19:00.002-07:002012-05-14T07:19:45.876-07:00Idlewild Baptist ChurchOur latest big decision as a family was to been to become members of our new church, Exciting Idlewild Baptist Church. This place has been such a huge factor in our happiness here in Tampa. Pastor Ken sums up the church perfectly when regarding the 12,000 plus members...he says, "We are not a big church, we are a small town".

Idlewild: We went our first Sunday we moved to Tampa and we were a little overwhelmed with the size of the church. However, by our third visit we joined a Sunday School Class that has completely taken us in with open arms which really helped us feel a more personal connection with Idlewild. We were only in the class for 6 weeks before Everett was born and they were already filling us up on diapers and wipes and then the week after he was born they came one by one every other night for 15 days bringing us dinners!! It was a unique way to meet a group of 20 in such a short amount of time, and such a blessing. They were so helpful with us finding a pediatrician, having play dates, and friends to confide in.

L.A.M.B. Sunday School Class: Our Sunday school class is made up of other parents in their 30's-40's with young children so we all can relate to one another. I have already found a couple women that have quickly become good friends that get me out for movies, coffee and dinner as well as play dates and prayer nights. We've also experienced some intense couples game nights, haha!! In class we have discussions on parenting, marriage, personal growth that have really struck a cord with Brandon and I because everyone in class is so real! No one is pretending to be someone they aren't, we are all so comfortable and feel safe to really lay it all out there with each other. We truly looking forward to Church every Sunday morning.

Children's Praise: Isla enjoys her Sunday School room. After spending all week with mommy, it was a hard transition at first for her to leave me and go to class, but we have gotten to the point where I don't even get kisses goodbye anymore as she just walks right out of my arms to play with her friends. A lot of the kids are the same kids her and I did Tiny Tots with in the Fall and Spring. Everett is, of course, the biggest baby in the nursery. The elder ladies love him, although they all complain that they just can hold him long enough (as he is too heavy). He's a hit and always the happiest baby in the room.

Baby Dedication: To become a member of the Church you have to go through a Membership 101 class which was a neat way of making it official. We got to meet with Pastor Ken, learn more about the history of the Church and the direction in which the Church is going. We are so excited to make this commitment as a family. God has truly blessed us with our new Church Family! We are having both Isla and Everett dedicated to the Church in August!!ELAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15991663365899894137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4473649916673411099.post-27050209415906958022012-05-14T07:12:00.001-07:002012-05-14T07:18:23.134-07:00Isla's 2nd Birthday PartyMay 5, 2012 - Lido Beach

Isla's has shown a great love for the beach, pool and SWIMMING this spring, so we found it only fitting to have her first birthday party in Florida be at the beach.

We had a blast. The party started at 4pm and we weren't loading up the car to leave until after 7:30pm!! Almost 4 hours at the beach and Isla was still going strong and sad when we had to leave. It worked our nicely that we had the late afternoon to play, early evening to eat and all stayed to watch the sunset.

Isla was probably in the water for a total of 3 hours (no lie!). She took her turns with everyone going down to the water and showing off her new skills of kicking in the water, putting her head under the water and floating on her back!!
She is amazing. We love her so much and I have had so much fun being with her everyday!! She starts school in August at Carrollwood Day School (it's like a pre-kindergarten program at Brandon's school) and I can't imagine not being with her everyday, all day anymore! Uh, I get sad just think about it.

At the age of 2 this is Miss Isla Marie:

Big Sister. She is a good big sister. She loves on him, takes care of him and loves making him smile. Every morning she wakes up the first thing she says is, "Bubby? Where's Bubby?!" She chooses when to share with her little brother, and for the most part she doesn't...but on the occasion that she does, she is all in. Sharing her toys, paci, blankie, and even baby dolls!! Sometimes it goes too far with her trying to share juice, goldfish, and grapes! She is so loving towards him with sugars, hugs, and makes him laugh (alot like the way her big cousin Kaden was with her at this age)! The other day I was trying to get ready to take them to the park and I was packing the diaper bag with my back to them both. They were sitting on the floor playing when I heard Isla say, "Bubby, bubby, are you okaaaay?" In the .05 seconds it took me to turn around I was thinking, oh dear Lord what did she do, or what did he put in his mouth. I was sure I checked the area they were playing and made it injury proof. Oh, no what is it and why don't I hear him making a noise!? When I turned my head, he was fine - laying on his back on the floor smiling at Isla. She must have seen him tip over and was asking him if he was ok... I don't know how to describe the scene to do it justice and explain just how adorable it was to hear, "Bubby, Bubby are you okaaaay?" Melted my heart!
Loves to talk. She has been babbling for almost a year now, but at about 18 months 'real' words were coming out faster than I could keep up with and within the last 3 months she has been stringing her words together. It use to be, "ha-ple pees" (apple please) and now it is, "mama, i want ha-ple pees". She also uses the word, "ok" a lot. Example: "Isla we are going to take a bath and then get ready for bed," she replies, "okaay". It's so cute and sincere.
It makes it so much fun!! However, she started saying the word, "no" way to much and with way too much athuority. So we tried to work on, "no thank you" and that wasn't catching on so now we say, "no please". She does great with it...it just sounds a little backwards!

Learning. She is learning colors, numbers and shapes. She can count to 3 and sometimes 5. She attempts the ABC's but it's kind of a jumbled mess, but she gets the tune!! She is learning how to cook and loves to stand on a chair in the kitchen wearing her apron helping out. She is a good listener. I don't give her enough credit and get frusterated when she "chooses" not to listen...but for the most part it is pretty amazing how much she comprehends and responds to with "oooo-kay".

Dance Machine. She hops with both feet (this took a little while to master). It started with her favorite song in Tiny Tots, "Jump in turn around, Splash in the puddle". Her jump was a litte more like a skip but Brandon kept dancing with her and showing her the two feet hop and we went nuts when she got it!! haha. She loves dancing to the music on American Idol and Dancing with the Stars. Anytime we are in a store, out at the pool or in the car and she hears music she stops what she is doing to start tapping to the beat and the next thing you know she is jamming!!

Potty trained. We wanted this completed by her 2nd birthday (mostly just to get one of our babies out of diapers). She got it down by 22-23 months. We started around 22 months and within the week she got it, it just took a couple more weeks to go without an accident each day. She loves her big-girl underwear :)

Swimming. She started swimming lessons 2 weeks ago. The first two lessons were brutal as she screamed and cried the entire time. She still went through the lesson, just while screaming and crying. The third visit was amazing...she got a little upset when she went into the pool and I stayed in the parent watch area, but by the time she got in the water she was good to go! She loves it now and is learning so much--I can see a huge difference in her already by just putting her head in the water, kicking, breathing etc. So fun!

Bite Bites. Loves to eat watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, cucumbers, corn, green beans, cheetos, grilled cheese, spaghetti, toast, oatmeal, cereal, pizza, oranges, bananas and waffers. She drinks water and milk and occasionally juice. She is at the stage now where eating just interupts her play time, so she eats like a bird. She is a healthy eater for the most part, and chooses fruit over almost anything!ELAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15991663365899894137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4473649916673411099.post-12846422012474020482012-04-30T09:49:00.002-07:002012-04-30T09:49:49.639-07:00Lowry Park Zoo

For Isla's 2nd birthday (next week!) Mamaw and Papaw got her and the family a year pass to the Lowry Park Zoo! It is a great gift as the zoo is only 9 miles from us and is such an easy morning or afternoon activity for us to do with the kids. Isla has really been into animals recently. Her favorite books are ones with animals where you learn where they live, what they do and what kind of sound they make.

She went nuts over all the animals and open space to run, walk, skip, and play in water! Every time we got to a new exhibit she would see the animal and her jaw would drop and she would say, "oooooohhh....uuuuuukk, uuuuukk!" (ooo, look, look!) She was so excited that the drama to her facial expressions and hand gestures were priceless!!

They are all growing up so fast...we just wish we could see them more!! It was so fun to have all the Erb Grandkids together for the weekend including Reece, Brandon, Tahana, and Jocey!
He loves his big sister. He doesn't take his eyes off of her when she is in the room. He gives her the biggest smiles and giggles. When he gets fussy (which is usually when he is hungry) she is just about the only thing that can hold him off until I can get him fed. She talks and smiles at him and he is memorized. The only other thing that can capture is attention as much as Isla, is his favorite show, Blue's Clues. He loves it :)

We have ventured into the world of food for Everett. He seems to like it, however he likes to use the rubber end of the spoon for teething more than for eating. He still doesn't take a bottle very well, and even with the solid foods he still prefers to eat from Mommy. I absolutely love nursing and bonding with him, however, it is much more difficult this time around as I am having to keep up with a 2 year old. I hope to keep the solid foods and nurse until at least his first birthday (which at the rate he is growing it will look like I'm nursing a 5 year old)!

Brandon gets home from work around 4 and by 4:30pm we are at the pool. Isla loves the beach and pool and Everett just got in the water for the first time this week and enjoyed it just as much. The weather has been great for laying out but the water has been a little chilly...it hasn't ever stopped Isla from charging in, but up until now, Everett enjoyed his walker on the pool deck. Now that they are both in the water we are having a blast. I love having water babies :)
Easter in Sarasota...
We went down to Sarasota to spend Easter with family. Isla participated in a couple different egg hunts (one at church, a friend's, and our family) throughout the weekend. She loved them all and really got into it, especially when she discovered the jelly beans inside of them. Some eggs had JB's and other's didn't, so she would pick up an egg and shake it...if it made noise she would dig into the candy, if not she put it in her bucket and moved on to the next egg. This became serious business for her :)

On Sunday we went to Church and then had an Easter Egg Hunt at Grammie and Poppy's for the kids. Isla looked for pink eggs (as they were the easiest in plain sight) and Brandon, Tahana, and Jocey looked for all the rest. The kids ran around the back yard wild looking and screaming for eggs. We then ate and hung out on the porch for a couple of hours. We played, laughed and ate plenty!! What a great day :)

KENTUCKY WILDCAT BASKETBALL
2012 National Champions

The UK basketball season opened up just three days before Everett was born...and what a season it has been!! For this to be the
first year Brandon has lived outside of the state of Kentucky in over 14
years he has loved representing the Cats in Florida as
they make a run at the National Championship. He wears his UK shirts and hats with pride and stands out just about every where we go.

EVERY
game the kids are sure to be dressed in their UK gear - cheering on the
Cats. Brandon taught Isla the Cats cheer..."oooooooooooo C-A-T-S, CATS,
CATS, CATS!!" and Everett watches and giggles.

When March Madness approached with UK the #1 overall seed it added even more pressure but lots of fun for the weeks to come!

It has been so fun to watch the kids grow throughout the season...
She loves bubbles and all her bath toys. We have done the crayons on the wall, bath letters, color fizz that turns the water different colors, but you give her a plastic cup and she is the most happy to fill it up and pour it out....over and over and over again!! She loves to go over her numbers, colors, and songs while in the bathtub too. The only way to get her out of the tub is to tell her it's time to brush her teeth or tell her it's Bubby's bath time and I need help washing him.
Everett loves bath time just as much as his big sister. He loves the warm water and watching Isla stand over him trying to put soap on his feet (that's what I let her wash). She now knows to wait to wash his feet until after he pee-pees, because one time she was bent over and he got some serious airtime right into the side of her face!!

Busy weekends seem to be the norm for us lately. We are in Sarasota
at least 2x a week and now that real beach weather is here...it will
probably increase. When we stay in Tampa we usually have a function with Brandon's work, church or taking the kids to parks and watching ball games! This weekend was non-stop fun for the kids as Aunt
Shelby came up Friday to spend her half-day at the pool with us. We hung out by the pool and snacked while Isla explored the deck and Everett watched and giggled. Aunt Shelby is really good at taking pictures and captured some great ones of the kids! After our pool day, Aunt Shelby
took Isla back to St. Pete for the evening to spend time with her and Uncle Matt. They took Isla to dinner in the cafeteria
on campus and then to Admiral Farragut's first-ever Lacross game.
Apparently, it didn't start out as well as plan because
Isla was TERRIFIED of the guys in helmets and sticks running around on
the field. Aunt Shelby quickly resolved the issue with a trip right
next door to the "park" as Isla calls the playground. When we picked Isla up she was a hot-sweaty-dirty mess which was a result of a fun evening with Aunt Shelby!! We headed down to Sarasota after picking her up...
Saturday morning we spent at Siesta Key Beach with some
friends. We watched Megan train on the volleyball courts while Isla played in the sand and Evertt got to
roll on his towel. We had to leave before noon to nap and shower for
Jocey's birthday party at BounceU. Isla was the youngest active kid at
the party (Everett and Reece were mere spectators being passed around).
Isla got to bounce with Aunt Cammy and Uncle Rhett and wore herself out
laughing! Grammy and Poppy then spent the evening with the worn out babies as
Brandon and I enjoyed a nice evening out. Sunday morning we headed back
to Tampa in which the babies slept on the drive back and then Isla
proceded to take a 3 hour nap...they were tuckered out!
Although, I will say that we absolutely love Dr. Hauser. She is so great with the kids and is more like a family member rather than a doctor. She asks for pictures to put on her wall in the office and when she walks in the room she spends the first 10 minutes gushing over them and loving on them. She has a heart of gold and is really practical but cautious when caring for Isla and E.

At 4 months old, Everett has peaked in height at 28 inches (99 percentile) and maintains the sturdy 19.19 lbs (96 percentile). Dr. Hauser calls him healthy and hearty!!

4 month shots - Poor Baby

I can't talk about our new doctor without mentioning our nurse, Stormi. Stormi is about 5'10, 220lbs of midnight darkness (she's black, dark black). She calls Everett, "Papa" which I think is adorable. She usually says it in the plural form, "Papas" and with her flavored accent it is hilarious. She and Everett bonded early on when he peed on her while being weighed and she says in her 10 years he is actually the first believe it or not!

The friendliness in the doctors office doesn't make the shots any easier...but E is a trooper. He cries it out until I'm able to pick him up and then he is fine. He hasn't had any reactions to shots except to sleep the rest of the day!!

Isla has a thing with ears...she likes to grab them. Not just her ears, although that is what usually soothes her to sleep, but she likes daddy's, mommy's, family's, friend's and even her own dog's ears. She reaches for an ear much more when she is tired or upset, but we've also noticed that it is her comfort in almost any situation. She doesn't have a blankie or a stuffed animal...just give her an ear and she is good to go.

Sometimes it is a gentle grasp of your ear as she massages her fingers all over, exploring it to a whole new level then you knew possible...and sometimes you will get a significant YANK or even better, a good pinch to the ear in which you might want to scream holy moly! Some people may think that since ears are made of cartilage it probably doesn't not hurt that bad, but those people haven't met Isla Marie! Leave it to Isla who can sometimes make it so painful that she can draw out a flinch, scream or even blood from your ear. Most recently she has discovered a technique in which we call her a human Q-Tip. She takes her pointer finger (and sometimes her thumb) and sticks it as far into your ear as possible. This is what I prefer as it seems to be less chance of her causing me pain as she hasn't quite discovered how far she can actually push her finger in.
Daddy has had it the worst in the pain department. She is usually pretty gentle with my ear, but Daddy's ear is close to the 'plastic surgery is needed' phase. In fact, one morning I woke up and asked him if he had a nose bleed in the middle of the night as I noticed a significant amount of blood on his pillow. He shook his head and said, "no, no that would be my ear...Isla broke the skin last night with her finger nail". OUCH!

I always knew potty training would be an adventure...but when you are still nursing one child and potty training the other it makes for some very unique situations. (ex. Isla gets jealous whenever I'm feeding E because she knows that for those 20 minutes I am busy and she is going to have to wait for whatever it maybe that she wants...so what does she do?? She yells, "PEE, PEE...PEE, PEE" in the middle of E's meal so I have no other choice to put him down (making him very unhappy) and run Isla to the potty. I put her up on the potty and wait...and wait...and wait. Meanwhile, Everett is screaming and she looks at me with a little devilish smile, almost as if she was saying, 'haha I win'!! So to put a stop to this, I swing Everett in one arm while maintaining suction (haha) and take Isla to the potty. E and I sit on the edge of the tub, still nursing, while we wait for Isla to go. After couple times, she stopped "crying wolf" about Pee-pee. Seems she likes her privacy from her little brother in the bathroom and rightfully so :)

She has picked it up quickly. She knows to let us know when she needs to go and loves sitting on the potty while we tell her what a big girl she is!! Her reward is stickers. She loves them and stares at her chart while on the potty. She doesn't even get to keep a sticker to play with but she knows there is something very special about getting to put one on her chart. So far it seems to be the easiest and most 'rewarding' thing to do.

We haven't done much other than Pee-Pee in the Potty, and evenings there is no consistency with our activities and work schedules so that's the next thing we are working on. I think if I was more discplined with her she would have it all down, but circumstances make it difficult. Although, I'm going to get serious this week with her...she has so much interest in it and loves wearing her big girl panties. Wow...I just spent 10 minutes talking about Pee-Pee...oh how my world has changed!! (and I love it!)
ELAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15991663365899894137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4473649916673411099.post-8597883892884290862012-03-05T18:01:00.003-08:002012-03-09T04:38:50.332-08:00Giggles

Everett ADORES his big sister... and although Isla might think of him more as her little "bother" than little brother, it's also pretty obvious she loves him too!

Poor guy can't keep a paci... Isla claims every paci that he even trys to stick with. I started this video right after she took his paci and put it in her mouth. At least he doesn't seem to mind :)

So after telling Isla she had to return the paci to E...she decides to sit on him.

Everett has no choice but to be tough!!

at Idlewild Baptist Church

This is a music class for Isla and I and has been my saving Grace! We started last Fall when I was 8 months pregnant with Everett. It was a lot to take on at the time with us just moving to Tampa and chasing after a 15 month old but I figured it would be good for Isla and I to meet new people and get some quality time together. I met some great moms and Isla made good friends with a boy named Titus and girl named Finley. We go over a bible verse, bible story and music songs in a 45 minute class every Wednesday morning for 12 weeks!

Now that Everett is here - they have a Kids Kare that he can stay at every week for $2.00 in a classroom next door with other siblings so mom's can focus on the one-on-one time with one child. Now this class means more to me than ever because I don't get a lot of alone time with Isla anymore. She eats it up knowing that she has mommy all to herself for almost a whole hour!! I love it too!!

Songs she has learned in Tiny Tots that are her favorites "Praise the Lord with my Two Feet", "My God is so Big", "The Wise Man", "Where is?" and there are traditional ones such as "Head & Shoulders", "Wheels on the bus", and "Patty Cake". The kids get instruments and props to dance with and Isla is such a ham in class... definitely the teacher's pet (that's the other mom's observation, not just mine!! haha).

*I will be sure to post videos with her doing her songs and dance*ELAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15991663365899894137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4473649916673411099.post-14170451213079387292012-03-05T17:08:00.002-08:002012-03-09T04:39:32.781-08:00Evening Walks

Our evening walks...Isla loves being outside and loves the ducks :)

She thinks any kind of birds are "ducks" - we even went to the beach last week and she was running after the seagulls yelling "duckies, duckies"!!

She walks around the lake asking, "what's that?" about anything and everything and also knows when she sees cigarette butts to say, "yucky!!"

TAMPA, FLORIDA

BRANDON - working at Carrollwood Day School...it is a private school where he is Dean of Students and loving his job. March madness is upon us and his Cats are #1 so he is a happy man these days! He is an incredible father as he spoils them rotten! He dances and reads books with Isla and him and Everett stay up late together watching basketball games.

WHITNEY- (Me!) I'm home with the kids and loving it!! I miss working but time with the kids is priceless. I spend the majority of my time in spit up, drool, poopies, and un-bathed! I have now experienced both sides of the working-mom and stay-at-home mom and let me just say that BOTH deserve a medal. Maybe a medal in the form of a 3 night-2 day vacation with a couple of gal pals, haha! I'm also giving volleyball lessons right now 3x a week which has been nice to get back in the gym.

ISLA - Is now 22 months old! Almost 2 years old, in which I will stop referring to her in months, I promise :)

She is a dancing machine. I don't know if it is normal for 2 year olds
to have so much musicality. Of course I think she is advanced! haha! She
loves music and LOVES TO DANCE! She likes riding in Daddy's car better
than mommy's, still holds on to someone's ear to fall asleep, and has
more personality than I know what to do with :)

She is talking up a storm. Her favorite phrases: I don't know - Come on - Lets Dance - Lets Walk (lets go for a walk) - More Pees (More please) - Hi Bubba (Hello to her brother) - Bubbles (When referring to wanting to watch Bubble Guppies, or put Bubbles in her bath tub) - Cheese (Grill Cheese) She is mastering all her cousins names....Bran-d, Hana, Jocey, Kad-n, Macie, Ar-per, Reecie

Favorite Shows - Bubble Guppies, Fresh Beat Band and Olivia (If you have ever seen Olivia--I see this as Isla in a couple of years! Smart, Sassy, Curious, Great Imagination, a Leader (or bossy), and calls her little brother, "bother' because that is what he is...her little bother! So cute!

Favorite Foods - all fruit, veggies, oatmeal, pasta, grilled cheese, mac 'n cheese, waffers, pretzels, biscuits/breads

EVERETT - 18 weeks (almost 5 months)! BIG is a good word for him. He is huge (97% weight and 89% height) and so are his spit-ups, diapers, and appetite. Let me put it into perspective this way...Isla weighed 19lbs on her 1st birthday and Everett weighed 19lbs at 4 months old!

We decided he is so tender hearted. He is so sweet by nature, laid back, and lovable. He looooves his big sister, as he doesn't take his eyes off her when she is in the room. He is rolling over, almost sitting up on his own and going through some major teething! He is super tough...he has no choice really with Isla wanting to hold him, burp him, feed him, and shove pacifiers in his mouth not to mention her hugs and sugars!
